Jack Ma: There are no backward enterprises, only traditional thinking

On the morning of August 10, at the first "Internet plus+Retail" Zijin Summit hosted by Suning, Ma Yun, Wang Jianlin, Robin Lee and others gathered to make an appearance. In the afternoon of that day, Alibaba announced a strategic investment of approximately 28.3 billion yuan in Suning, becoming the second largest shareholder of Suning. The following is Jack Ma's speech at the conference. Since traditional enterprises do not live well and Internet enterprises do not live well, they should live well together. If you do not want to become a traditional Internet company, you must have a historical responsibility and grow with traditional enterprises. Today I was very touched and excited, just walked in like a wedding. It was indeed a great wedding. I believe this is a very important day in the history of Chinese business, and also an important combination in the business world. During the two months of negotiations, I met with Zhang Jindong twice. Throughout the negotiation, Mr. Zhang and I hardly intervened because we believe that decisions made by young people must be made for the future. Young people know the future, and what we need to do is create new business models for the future. This in itself is a huge innovation. Many people are saying that traditional industries are not doing very well nowadays, and many believe that this is caused by Alibaba or e-commerce. Actually, e-commerce life is not very enjoyable either. Some time ago, I said in Germany that few Internet companies can survive for more than three years. For example, Google, Amazon and Tencent, we have lived for years, and each of us is very tired and hard. We are worried about the unpredictable future. Since traditional enterprises do not live well and Internet enterprises do not live well, I think they should live well together. Every technological revolution in human society, the first 20 years are the accumulation of technology, and the next 30 years are the beginning of great applications. Whether it is the first industrial revolution, the second agricultural revolution, or the so-called information and data revolution, the Internet has crossed 20 years, and the next 30 years will be the real hope and opportunity. The opportunity of Internet companies must be offline in the next 30 years, while the hope of traditional enterprises or offline enterprises must be online. In the next 30 years, we must be together. The Internet economy is not a virtual economy. The Internet economy must combine the virtual economy with the real economy. Everyone has noticed that since last year, Alibaba has invested heavily in paying attention to offline enterprises. We believe that in the next 20 or 30 years, if an Internet company like Alibaba does not enter the offline market, integrate with the offline market, or integrate with the offline market, there will be no future. Subversion is not our goal, nor is it our starting point. To bring the whole economy together and create the future together with traditional enterprises is the Internet enterprise. I and my team firmly believe that if an Internet company only considers making money by itself, only considers its own model, and does not consider the influence of other industries, and does not help them grow together, this Internet company will soon become a traditional Internet company. In the past, the Internet was surging, but there are many traditional Internet enterprises. If you don't want to become a traditional Internet company, you must have a historical responsibility. This historical responsibility is to grow with everyone and with traditional enterprises. Although participating in traditional industries and the real economy is a challenge for anyone, like Alibaba, we have been involved in the in-depth development and transformation of many specific traditional industries over the years, but the success rate is not very high. Not being successful doesn't mean we don't work hard, it doesn't mean we should give up our efforts. Today we talk more about Internet plus. In fact, the Internet must+traditional enterprises, and traditional enterprises must also add the Internet. There are no truly backward enterprises in this world, only traditional ideas, traditional concepts, and traditional actions. The first thing we hope to see in this collaboration is to make consumers more satisfied. Through our cooperation, we provide merchants with a more complete channel to not only receive services online, but also better services offline. The transformation of future enterprises requires them to master consumer data and adapt themselves to meet the needs of future consumers. In my opinion, the WWW of the Internet is three wins. Only when consumers win and businesses win, can we win on our own. We win on our own by jointly exploring and building a new platform organization that can combine online and offline, data and the future, and physical and digital. Is this collaboration for the sake of competition? I want to tell everyone that the essence of business is not for competition, competition is just a part of business. This cooperation aims to create a common development platform for China, the world, all small and medium-sized enterprises, and all manufacturers, so that businesses can benefit and consumers can benefit. The entire business ecosystem is healthier and more sustainable. Partners must have a vision and mindset for the future. In history, Alibaba and Suning have had competition, which is normal. Competition is an essential part of business. Some people also say that e-commerce will definitely impact the real economy. However, today, Internet plus is proposed, and we all see that only when the real economy and the digital economy do not exclude each other, but appreciate each other, cooperate with each other, and do each other's work well, can we create a new business ecosystem in China in the future. Today is not a decision made by me and Zhang Jindong, but by the young people, the young team, the young consumers, and our suppliers. The whole new Internet economy has 30 years to go. What we may need in the future is not three months, but three or three decades of efforts. It is hoped that more traditional enterprises, more production entities and digital economy, digital enterprises can be combined. It is also hoped that all Internet companies will take historical responsibility, participate in the construction of traditional economy, participate in the development of traditional economy, and jointly build tomorrow.
